They say it's the small, shrewd-like creatures,bugs, rodents, who are likely to survive an asteroid impact....?

Sure the people who survive underground will live as long as the food supply lasts then start eating themselves until the last few can return to the surface. Pretty sick but that would be be the way it would go down. They could never store enough food for everyone.
