Help, please................?

So I was home from college and I was hoping to see my dad. My mom told me that he had to do 'work release' because he got a DUI. He is doing 2 months, is this his first DUI or is my mom lying to me? I wouldn't think you would get this harsh of a punishment for a first DUI. OR can you? I also found an AA brochure, so it made me curious..
