Girls Only period help needed ?

ok i have my period right and i have a dance cl tonight and i like have never tried tampons before but i need to for dance because my pads are really uncomfortable when dancing so can some one please tell me if i should try and put a tampon in way before and dance a bit and see how it fells or just put it in just before cl?
