How could I get a job in the Music Industry?

I'm 17, Australian, from Wollongong NSW, study music, finishing year 12 in a few weeks. I've been looking on the net and in newspapers and training sites. I want to do a course in sound engineering, but I dont want to spend money on it if I cant get a career out of it. So are there any sites I should look at or if anybody knows how to get a job such as an apprenticeship or traineeship out of it I'd appreciate it.
